When Verizon Wireless gets the iPhone, we’ll see just how strong the Android devices really are in the smart phone market.

A fascinating recent survey finds that more than half of current Verizon Wireless customers are likely or very likely to buy an iPhone once the carrier gets it (uh oh Droid).

Half!

But that’s not all…

Twenty-three percent of AT&T customers said they’re likely to get an iPhone — and a whopping 47 percent of all AT&T iPhone users said they’d consider a VW iPhone.

Also very likely to get a Verizon iPhone: 22 percent of all Sprint customers (uh oh, Evo), and 20 percent of all T-Mobile users (uh oh Samsung Vibrant).

So here’s the question: What part of Android’s impressive success is due to a lack of iPhone availability outside of AT&T?

Will Android sales suffer when Verizon gets the iPhone?

The numbers above indicate they will. Significantly so, I believe.
