One of the elements most missing in consumer electronics is EASY.  Just three examples out of an unlimited pool:

  • Model numbers are horrific in our industry, meaning nothing to anybody except the manufacturers’ engineers.
  • Digital camcorders in their current form won’t make it in the mainstream because the digital video process is so difficult.  You have to transfer-edit-compress-convert-and-burn to get your video to your television properly. Generations will miss out on capturing video memories.
  • Did you know that Microsoft Office 2004 for the Mac — the predecessor to the most recent available version — has no less than 25 downloadable fixes and updates? I had to download three updates to get up-to-date.

If you want to be successful in consumer electronics, aim for easy, and you’ll have a rare commodity.
