I got a press release today from a company whose executives I know well, about a major upcoming product release.

The email was sent — anonymously and impersonally — to four writers at the same newspaper, myself included.

Thing is, as you probably know, I know longer write for a newspaper. Haven’t for years.

Two of the others on the email have not been at the newspaper being pitched for a combined 10 years. We’re not talking about recent job transitions. We’re talking many years.

On this single mailing, 75 percent of the recipients were egregious errors of laziness. A simple Google search would have told the PR person who currently covers her topic at this paper.

Remember, the products being pitched in the news release have millions of dollars of research and development behind them.

And now that it’s time to let the world know, the communication is an embarrassment.
