I was talking last week with a young salesperson and he asked me early on in the conversation a really intelligent question — he said, What are the traits that lead most to sales success? I told him 4 things.
#1- Be enthusiastic. if you can bring energy and desire and an interest in helping the customer — communicate that interest some more — enthusiastically. It’s rare in the world.
#2 – Be positive – Another rare commodity. You know how negativity is really contagious. The thing is…negativity is everywhere. Look around, right — bring up any news website of your choosing, and you shall find it there in spades. Negativity.
#3- Proactive communications This activity is a practical key to sales success. We have to be in front of our customers and prospects. We’ve gotta be there. We’ve got to be present. We’ve got to communicate.
#4- Follow up The most successful people follow up…a lot. Three times. We need to follow up three times. — Be positive. Be enthusiastic. Communicate proactively. Follow up a lot.
These four traits will put you at the very top of the sales profession and your customers are going to thank you with their money.
