Negativity is very contagious, right?
If you are around negative, pessimistic, cynical, or complaining people, it won’t be long before you are feeling some of those things yourself.
It’s why the news — online and on television — makes us feel stressed and anxious. It’s designed that way: negativity gets eyeballs and clicks. The worse it is, the better it is for them.
Here’s the thing: positivity is just as contagious as negativity — and far less common.
In fact, it’s downright rare.
This is why people are drawn to positive, optimistic, grateful people — because those mindsets are just as transferable and so much more desirable.
In a recent customer interview I did for a distributor client, I was told the following:
“I transfer to my customer what I get at the supply house first thing in the morning,” the HVAC contractor said. “If they are smiling and in a good mood and we cut up together, I get fired up and I bring that energy to my customers. I always leave there in a good mood, and then my customers don’t want me to leave.”
That’s awesome insight, isn’t it?
Sales is a transfer of energy, from you to the customer, and then onward to their customers.
If you bring your customers enthusiasm and positivity, you will probably be the only one doing so. You will be singular in their lives.
They will grab onto you, and never let go.
Negativity will bring people down around you.
Positivity will make you singular.
And it will make you money.
