journalI journal because I like fountain pens, and it gives me a chance to use them.

I journal because it’s an opportunity to think….slowly. In this age of email, text messages, and social media, how many chances do we have to really dwell on — and in — our thoughts anymore?
When we write, we are forced to think at the same speed as our slow-moving pen.

I journal because it forces me to zoom out and see the big picture of my life. More than half of everything I write is about gratitude. And gratitude leads to happiness, not the other way around. This is fact. (The link takes you to an exceptional Ted Talk by a monk in his 80s on gratitude and happiness.)

I journal because it lets me unwind things that have been nagging at me and causing stress. I often “write through” these issues, and either discard them or identify solutions, and then move on when the pen is capped.

I journal because it allows me to notice and uncover opportunities in my business, and my life, that I would not otherwise see whilst running the daily grind of life.

When I journal, only good things happen.

(As a practical note, I brought back two fantastic notebooks from Germany by a company called GMund. They’re not sold in the states, and the only way to get them is to order from the manufacturer.)
