blog6Study after study finds that happiness leads to success, not the other way around. Happy people succeed more. In fact, the most successful people I know go out of their way to actively look for things to be grateful and happy about.

(There are many books about this, led by the creator of the entire field of positive psychology, Martin Seligman. The best book I’ve read recently on this topic is Shawn Achor’s The Happiness Advantage.)

So, if happiness leads to success, a positive culture inside your company will have a great impact. When I started this work, I thought I was just growing companies. My clients tell me, nearly universally, that the startling infusion of positivity into their culture is at least as great a value as the sales growth itself. It makes their sales and customer service staffs more bold, more aggressive, more confident, more action-oriented, and yes, happier. This makes them more productive, more effective, and greatly increases employee retention.

How do I create these results? It’s simple: I talk to the customers of my clients and get collect their positive views and experiences. Then, I expose the staff to these incredibly powerful, emotional and impactful statements. Your customers sell you better than you sell yourself.

Ask your customer what they like best about working with you, and you’ll be amazed by the results. Marinate yourself and your staff in this positivity, and you’ll create happiness in the ranks, and success on the balance sheet.
