I’m turning 40 years old this week, and my grandmother just turned 90. I’m incredibly lucky and privileged to have her, now into my middle age! She taught me Russian, which I still speak fluently, but, somewhat amazingly, she also taught me English! My children are also incredibly lucky to have her. In fact, everyone I’ve ever seen around her feels lucky to be in her presence.
She’s always joyful, genuinely happy to be with you, and equally happy to be alone. She’s the greatest optimist I know, always expecting the best — of people and of situations. She has immense empathy for people, which makes her able to quickly help them, and make them happier than they were before they entered her presence. She side-steps problems, minimizing them, but runs full-speed (assisted by her walker, which she calls her Mercedes) towards positivity, happiness, and opportunities. Even when it’s hard, she makes it look easy.
Grandma was a pharmacist during her working years, but she would have made a stellar saleswoman. The joy makes her a magnet for people. The optimism makes her believe she’ll succeed no matter what. She brushes off losses and revels in the wins. And not just her own. She celebrates the wins of those around her.
Grandma would have made a killing in sales!
These are characteristics and attitudes we’re going to discuss in depth at my September 7 Revenue Growth Summit in Chicago. Forty-five are registered, about half traveling in from out of state. Want to grow your sales? Come spend a half day with me in a small group, and you’ll leave with a detailed plan to to do so. For free. That’s right. There’s no cost. See the agenda and details here.
Here is my family with Grandma on her 90th birthday party last weekend.
