I love doing speeches and workshops, and I’m very good at them, so I’ve turned them into one of my top marketing activities (it helps that speaking generates a lot of business for me as well). I enjoy good meals, great wines, and fine cigars, so I’ve been known to create events for clients and prospects around them.
Marketing works best when you enjoy the activities you execute. And, more importantly, if you don’t like a particular marketing action, don’t do it. What happens is we dread doing this work, and we avoid it, and when we finally do get to it, it usually doesn’t generate great results for us.
If you like to golf, market with it. If you hate cold calls (as I do), stop doing them (as I have years ago). If you like talking to smart people in intimate groups, create marketing like that. The point is, build your marketing around what you naturally love to do, and the revenue will follow.
